National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) - NFHA works to eliminate housing discrimination and to ensure equal housing opportunity for all people through leadership, education and outreach, membership services, public policy initiatives, advocacy and enforcement.

 

US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) - Works to increase homeownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination.

 

Wisconsin Equal Rights Division - Administers laws prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations, and the state’s family and medical leave law.  Enforces laws pertaining to minimum wage, overtime pay, timely payment of wages, employment of minors, and notification of business closings or mass layoffs. Also sets and enforces prevailing wage rates that must be paid on state and municipal construction projects.

 

Community Advocates - Provides advocacy for low income persons in the areas of housing, utilities, welfare, health care, financing Travelers Aid and emergency shelter. Community Advocates serves the metropolitan Milwaukee area.

 

University of Wisconsin-Extension - Provides an extension program designed to apply University research, knowledge, and resources to meet the educational needs of Wisconsin people, wherever they live and work.

 

Access to Independence - The mission of Access to Independence is to join with people with disabilities to create access to the community through education, action, and choice. Access to Independence serves Columbia, Dane, Dodge and Green Counties.

 

Independence First - A non-profit agency directed by, and for the benefit of, persons with disabilities, primarily serving the four county metropolitan Milwaukee area.

Options for Independent Living - A non-profit organization committed to empowering people with disabilities to lead independent and productive lives in their community through advocacy, the provision of information, education, technology and related services. Options to Independent Living serves Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Green Lake Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Marquette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago counties.

 

City of Madison Equal Opportunities Commission - The EOC is Madison’s primary City agency that has the responsibility for the remedy of discrimination complaints brought by individuals.

 

National Fair Housing Advocate Online - A website that provides up to date coverage of fair housing news from around the country.

 

Tenant Resource Center - Offers free counseling for tenants and landlords interested in learning more about their rental rights and responsibilities. The Tenant Resource Center can also refer clients to other agencies when appropriate to assist them with their needs.

Community Shares of Wisconsin - Community Shares of Wisconsin together with its donors and member agencies addresses social, economic and environmental problems through grassroots activities, advocacy, research and public education. FHCGM, a satellite office of MMFHC, is a member of Community Shares of Wisconsin.

 

Madison Times - The Madison Times Weekly Newspaper focuses on positive and success stories in the African American, Latino, Southeast Asian, and American Indian communities, as well as other multicultural communities and disadvantaged sectors. It delivers fresh reports and analyses/commentaries on issues important to the lives of these communities, such as civil and human rights, education, economic and development opportunities, housing, employment opportunities, indigenous rights, environmental concerns, health care, and others.

 

HBC Services - HBC services, inc. is a home buyer counseling agency serving Southeastern Wisconsin. Founded in 2000 for the purpose of opening the door to home ownership for more households, especially first time buyers of low to moderate means.
